The ‘Abbott Elementary’ star Ayo Edebiri was quick to respond to Paul Mescal’s joke about Irish people and potatoes during an appearance on ‘The Late Late Show’ earlier this month.

During the interview, host James Corden asked Paul about his heritage and the actor revealed that he is half-Irish, half-English. James then joked that all Irish people eat potatoes, to which Paul replied that he is “actually allergic to potatoes”.

The joke clearly didn’t go down well with Ayo, who is also of Irish heritage, and she took to Twitter to call out James for his “offensive” comments. However, she later apologized for her outburst and said that she was “just passionate about representing my culture accurately”.

Fast forward to this week, and Ayo and Paul were spotted together at the premiere of ‘The Afterparty’ in Los Angeles. Ayo was quick to pose for a photo with Paul, and it seems that the Irish joke is still going strong.

In the photo, Ayo can be seen holding up a sign that reads “I’m not Irish, I’m British”, while Paul holds up a sign that reads “I’m not allergic to potatoes, I just don’t like them”.

It’s great to see that Ayo and Paul have put the controversy behind them and are now able to laugh about it. We’re sure that James Corden will be laughing too, although we’re not sure if he’ll be brave enough to make any more Irish jokes in the future!
